How to Claim and Equip DragonSword Awakening Costume & Familiar DLC

Updated 2026-07-30

Quick answer

First make sure Steam has registered the DLC to the same account that owns DragonSword: Awakening, then fully restart the game. For a purchased Familiar, use Main Menu โ†’ Codex โ†’ Familiar โ†’ purchased Familiar. For a purchased Costume, use Main Menu โ†’ Heroes โ†’ character for the purchased costume โ†’ Costume. Those are the official routes published by Hound13 on July 28, 2026.

The in-game menu cannot grant a Steam product that is not in your library. Complete the purchaseโ€”or use Add to Library for a free offerโ€”before looking for the item inside the game.

1. Confirm Steam ownership before opening the game

  1. Sign in to the Steam account that purchased the DLC and owns the base game.
  2. Open the DLC's Steam store page or your Library and confirm that Steam shows it as owned or in your library. If Steam provides a DLC list under the base game's properties, you can check the product there as well.
  3. Let any pending download or update finish. Do not leave the game running while adding a new DLC license.
  4. Exit DragonSword: Awakening completely, then launch it again through Steam.

There is no documented in-game โ€œrestore purchasesโ€ button. The basic recovery step is to verify ownership in Steam and restart the game so the current license is read on launch. If the store still offers a paid Purchase action instead of showing ownership, double-check the signed-in Steam account and your transaction history before troubleshooting the game menus.

2. Claim and equip a purchased Familiar DLC

  1. From the game, open the Main Menu.
  2. Select Codex.
  3. Open Familiar.
  4. Select the Familiar you purchased.
  5. Use the available on-screen obtain or equip action for that owned Familiar.

The official FAQ describes this path as the way to โ€œobtainโ€ a DLC Familiar. It does not document a separate mailbox, redeem code, or restore menu. A Familiar's store ownership also does not prove that it has a particular mount skill or traversal bonus; check its current in-game description. For the broader system boundary, see the Cooking, Equipment & Familiars guide and Mounts guide.

3. Claim and equip a purchased Costume DLC

  1. Open the Main Menu.
  2. Select Heroes.
  3. Choose the character named by the costume DLC you purchased.
  4. Open Costume.
  5. Select the owned costume and use the available on-screen obtain or equip action.

Costumes are character-specific, so opening another hero's Costume page will not show the item in the correct place. Check the DLC's Steam title or description if you are unsure which character it belongs to. For edition contents and optional DLC context, use the price and editions guide.

Abyssal Direwolf free-claim deadline

The Abyssal Direwolf is a useful dated example of the Steam-first process. Hound13's event notice says to visit its Steam store page, select Add to Library, and then use the Familiar in-game.

CheckpointOfficial detail
Claim deadlineAugust 31, 2026 at 07:00 KST / August 30, 2026 at 15:00 PT
Account statusPermanently registered to the Steam account once added during the free period
After the deadlineThe item transitions to regular paid sale

Adding it to a wishlist is not the same as adding it to your library. Claim the license before the stated cutoff, then restart the game and follow Main Menu โ†’ Codex โ†’ Familiar โ†’ Abyssal Direwolf.

If purchased DLC does not appear

  1. Confirm that the DLC and base game are owned by the same Steam account.
  2. Close the game fully and relaunch it through Steam.
  3. Check that Steam has completed pending game or DLC downloads.
  4. Follow the correct menu branch: Codex โ†’ Familiar for Familiars, or Heroes โ†’ correct character โ†’ Costume for costumes.
  5. If ownership is visible in Steam but the item remains absent after a restart, record the DLC name, Steam receipt status, game version, and a screenshot of the relevant menu before contacting official support.

Avoid repeatedly buying the same product as a troubleshooting step. If you are new to the menus, the beginner guide explains the early progression context.

Resolved launch-history context

Two launch problems are historical context, not current blockers. One resolved notice said unpurchased Costume and Familiar DLC could incorrectly appear owned; attempting to equip those entries could close the game. Another resolved notice said some DLC initially did not display correctly in the Steam store. Both official notice titles are marked Resolved, so do not present either as an active universal problem. The current first step remains a normal Steam ownership check followed by a game restart.
