DragonSword Awakening Beginner Guide: Release-Version First Steps

Updated 2026-07-24

Start Here

DragonSword: Awakening is now available on Steam. It is a premium Windows PC action RPG built around a three-hero tag team, Status Ailments and Signal Skills. If you are starting the released game, prioritize four things:

  1. install it on an SSD;
  2. follow the main story until core systems open;
  3. activate every Waypoint you find;
  4. learn one reliable three-hero status chain before worrying about an endgame meta.

Before You Play

The official minimum setup is Windows 10, Intel i5-9400F, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1660, DirectX 12 and 25 GB of storage. Recommended hardware is an Intel i7-9700F, 16 GB RAM and RTX 3060.

Hound13 explicitly warns that an SSD is required for the intended experience. HDD installation may cause long loading, texture pop-in, framerate drops or crashes.

The game received updates 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 immediately after release. If you encounter a startup crash after changing graphics settings, update the game and check the current Steam News workaround before reinstalling everything.

Learn the Three-Hero Combat Loop

You fight with a party of three heroes. Official material describes up to two Active Skills and two Signal Skills per hero. The intended loop is:

  1. apply Status Ailments with Active Skills;
  2. switch heroes rather than staying on one character;
  3. use the next heroโ€™s compatible actions to extend the chain;
  4. trigger Signal Skills when their conditions are available;
  5. dodge and reposition instead of forcing a broken combo.

The official Lute, Castella and Aria preview demonstrates Break, Stun, Knockdown, Fire and Airborne interactions. Use it as a system example, not a universal best team.

Explore Efficiently

Released-game achievements confirm several map systems:

  • activate Waypoints for fast travel;
  • restore Goddess Statues of Organa;
  • activate Eonaโ€™s Legacy objectives;
  • open Treasure Chests and use Treasure Maps;
  • complete Area Quests, Sudden Missions, Hero Quests and Bond Quests;
  • solve Platform and Slide puzzles.

Activate travel points when you first reach them. Search dungeon side rooms before leaving because the game tracks opening all chests inside a dungeon.

Progression Priorities

A safe early progression order is:

  1. Main story: follow it until the game introduces its menus and progression gates.
  2. Waypoints and gates: unlock travel infrastructure as soon as it appears.
  3. One main team: learn the timing and Status Ailments of three heroes before spreading resources widely.
  4. Hero and Bond Quests: Steam achievements confirm named quests for several heroes, including Cerese, Dana, Ornette, Theresia and Kalien.
  5. Side exploration: clear nearby Area Quests, chests and puzzle activities while routes are fresh.

This site does not yet have a release-build table for every hero unlock or upgrade cost, so avoid guides that present an exact universal order without showing the current version and evidence.

Co-op Basics

Steam confirms Online Co-op. Official developer material sets the following player caps:

  • Subjugation: up to 2 players.
  • Raids: up to 3 players.

Co-op is limited to selected combat activities rather than the whole story. The cited pre-release FAQ describes host-based Steam lobbies. Current menu steps, scaling and reward efficiency should be checked against the live build rather than assumed from old preview material.

Business Model and DLC

The base game is currently listed at $29.99 in the US Steam store. The optional Deluxe Pack is a separate $19.99 DLC and contains the digital artbook, soundtrack and Brave Baby Dragon Familiar.

The Abyssal Direwolf Familiar DLC is listed as free during the announced July 23โ€“August 31 launch window. Other costume and Familiar DLCs are optional. The game is not free-to-play and the former gacha design was removed.

Current Known Issues

Official post-release notices document:

  • startup crashes after certain graphics settings;
  • a Frame Generation crash fixed in 1.0.2;
  • an FPS-limit setting that did not save before 1.0.2;
  • several quest-progression and crash fixes.

Use current patch notes for troubleshooting; demo behavior and pre-release reviews are no longer the right baseline.
