DragonSword: Awakening Demo Guide โ Scope, Save Transfer & Full Game Boundary
Updated 2026-07-24
What the Demo Includes
The DragonSword: Awakening demo was released alongside Steam Next Fest (June 2026) and later extended to July 7, 2026 (KST). It is a pre-release build that gives you a taste of the early game.
- Main Story: Chapter 1 of the full game's 8 chapters is playable.
- Playable Heroes: 8 of the 19 total heroes are available in the demo. (Note: The initial announcement listed 9, but the final demo build reduced this to 8.)
- World Exploration: A selection of areas from the Orbis Continent are open. Exact zones are not specified, but the demo is designed to be completed in roughly 1โ2 hours.
- Combat System: You can experience the tag-team combat featuring Status Ailments and Signal Skills. The demo includes a limited set of heroes to test different team compositions.
- Steam Deck: The demo runs on Steam Deck but is not officially verified. Performance may vary.
Important: The demo is a pre-release build. It does not represent the final quality of the full game. The developers have acknowledged shortcomings such as missing lock-on, controller support issues, and mobile-era design elements, which Hound13 said it intended to address for the full release. Current patch notes and the released build are the correct source for determining what actually shipped.
Save Data and Full Game Transfer
Demo save data will not carry over to the full release. This is explicitly stated by Hound13 in the demo announcement. Any progress, items, or character unlocks made in the demo were not transferred when the full game was released.
This means you should treat the demo purely as a preview. Do not invest time grinding for rare drops or completing optional content expecting it to transfer. The demo is a sandbox for testing mechanics and providing feedback.
Full Release Differences
The full game is a premium single-purchase title (USD $29.99 / โฌ29.99) with no gacha mechanics. All playable heroes and core content are obtainable through gameplay alone. DLC will be limited to costume sets and select familiars.
According to the developers, the demo represented approximately 5% of the full game. The pre-release announcement said the full version would include:
- Main story chapters 2โ8
- New exploration zones
- Additional hero and NPC quests
- Strategic boss battles in dungeons, subjugations, and raids (multiplayer support for subjugations and raids)
- All 19 heroes (compared to the demo's 8)
- Many quality-of-life improvements based on demo feedback
Improvements Hound13 said it planned for the full release in its feedback response included:
- Lock-on targeting
- Separation of dodge and sprint inputs
- Improved controller support and combat controls
- Mouse cursor visibility during cutscenes
- Cookbook filter
- Equipment enhancement menu with material quantity display
- Controller scroll support for in-game readable items
- Combat targeting accuracy improvements
- Independent vertical/horizontal camera sensitivity options
- Map marker memo feature
- Tutorial images
- Controller D-Pad usability improvements
- Default key rebinding (R key for QWERTY, T key for AZERTY)
- Additional language support (languages beyond Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese are being added)
- Translation quality improvements
The demo itself received a single update (version 0.1.4) that fixed an intermittent crash when returning to the title screen.
Tips for Playing the Demo
Since the demo is a limited-time preview, here are practical considerations:
- Time limit: The demo was available until July 7, 2026 (KST). If you are reading this after that date, the demo is no longer playable. The Steam store page confirms the full game is now released.
- Focus on feedback: The developers actively used the DEMO Feedback subforum on Steam and the #demo-feedback Discord channel. If you encounter bugs, crashes, or have UI/combat suggestions, that was the best place to report them.
- Test different heroes: The demo offered 8 heroes. Use them to see which playstyles you enjoy, but remember that the full game will have 11 more.
- Ignore grinding: Because save data does not transfer, there is no benefit to farming items or leveling characters beyond the demo's natural progression. Use the time to explore the combat system and story.
- Steam Deck users: The demo was not verified, so you may encounter performance issues or control quirks. The demo was not verified; use current release-build reports for Steam Deck behavior.
